Multi Organ Transplant
Multi-organ transplantation is used to treat multiple dysfunctional or diseased organs. In some patients, not only one but multiple organs have failed or are likely to fail. They are in need of multi-organ transplantation. Transplant programs must carefully consider whether a patient will be accepted for multi-organ or single-organ transplantation, because patients may regain function in other organs after a single-organ transplant.
In most cases of multi-organ transplantation, the organs are usually replaced with healthy organs from the same donor. Receiving organs from different donors can make the patient’s immune system less responsive and lower the risk that their body will reject the organs.
These are the Transplant combinations that we do, and sometimes more than two organs:
- Heart-lung
- Liver-kidney
